What is Link Building?

Link building is called the process of adding links to your content or from other websites to your web page. This chapter will focus on link building strategy and using these tips to improve or rank on search engines.

But before we begin with link building for SEO we must prepare the foundation of our website to be able to create a connection between all pages and increase the ranking chance.

Topic relevancy

The topics you are trying to rank for must be connected to each other. For example if my website is about marketing and business, then I write an article about cooking, even if I follow all the rules I have a very low chance ranking in that keyword.

Search engines will also look at other pages on my website to see if they are connected. So if I really want to rank for cooking connected keywords I must create different pages about cooking as well on my website.

Internal Links

The next step is to create internal links to other connected pages on your own website. If you don’t have other pages connected to the same topic, you can start making some and later use these links on the main page you want to rank.

The best example of internal links is the Wikipedia website. They use many different internal links on each page, making it one of the great reasons why they rank so high in each keyword.

Inbound link or Backlinks

The next step is to create inbound links or backlinks to your web page, but this is not something that we can go to our website and create since it is not made on our own website and must be done on other websites.

Even though creating backlinks is not in our control, we can push the inbound link-building process forward. This process include 4 steps:

1. Find relevant blog posts

The first step is to find blog posts or websites connected to the topics and keywords you want to rank for.

You can search for the same keyword or relevant keywords (like LS keywords) and analyze websites. Create a list of these blog posts with their links, so we go deeper into it on the other steps.

2. Analyze the page

The second step is to analyze each page and to find the top choices for your website. You should select the blog posts with a good amount of traffic but have a few external links.

This will help to deliver more value to your web page and help you rank higher.

3. Get connected

The 3rd step is to get in touch with the website owner and give them an offer. You can start by telling them how good their website or article is. Then mention there is a small part of their blog post that you can add more value by adding a couple of lines. Then wait and see if they are interested. Most website owners won’t respond and if they do, they may refuse.

If you didn’t get any response try reaching out to them several times, or even find them on social media and try to connect.

The reason that we are going after articles that are written and already ranking in Google comparing to writing new articles is that it will deliver more value to your website.

After you received the green light from them, you should go for the next step.

4. The edited text

The final step is to find a good place in their article to add the new lines with your website link. It is very important to deliver real value to their article otherwise these steps won’t work.

Also, remember not to replace but add several new lines that will help their article. Let’s practice together to get better at this step. Let’s say we want to add a new sentence to this article with an external link and delivering value.

Practice:

In step 2 “Analyze the page” we can find a place to add a line which drives traffic to our web page which is connected.

The second step is to analyze each page and to find the top choices for your website. You should select the blog posts with a good amount of traffic but have a few external links.

This will help to deliver more value to your web page and help you rank higher.

After edit:

The second step is to analyze each page and to find the top choices for your website. You should select the blog posts with a good amount of traffic but have a few external links. To complete this task easier you can read more about it here and find out about the 3 tools that help you analyze each article faster.

This will help to deliver more value to your web page and help you rank higher.

As you can see I added a new line in bold (you don’t need to bold it, I just did it so you find the new line easier) and it is helping to deliver more value to the article offering an easier way to readers.
